SERVIETTE WOMEN’S FOOTBALL CLUB
SERVETTE FCCF – FC AARAU FRAUEN 2-0 (1-0)
The Servettiennes continue with a third victory in a row! This time, they beat FC Aarau Frauen with a score of 2 to 0. They gained a lot of confidence just before going to Poland for the Champions League.
Servette FCCF played its fourth match of the season this Saturday afternoon. Against FC Aarau Frauen, the Servettiennes had two main objectives: to maintain the current winning streak and to further improve their game. On the pitch, there was no comparison between the two teams. The SFCCF kept the ball for the vast majority of the time and created all the opportunities. José Barcala’s players quickly found the back of the net thanks to a 100% Swedish combination. Well launched by Maéva Clémaron, Therese Simonsson was able to cross towards Cassandra Korhonen. The latter did not need to be asked twice to light up the Aargau goalkeeper’s top corner (11th).
The Servettiennes could have doubled the lead in the process but it was the post that repelled Paula Serrano’s attempt. The pace of the match then lost a little steam and the visitors closed ranks defensively to only act on the counter. In the second half, the Genevans continued to put pressure on the opposing half of the field and they still created opportunities. However, if they did not stumble on the Aargau players, it was their goalkeeper, Lorena Barth, who pulled out all the stops. She saved the attempts of Manon Rivelli, Imène El Ghazouani and Joana Marchão with her fingertips.
Finally, the second Servettian goal still arrived. On a comeback from Ana Jelencic, Cassandra Korhonen scored twice (94th). It was a deserved 2-0 victory for a Servette FCCF that is still gaining confidence before going hunting for the Champions League next week. If the results are there, the Genevans’ game can still improve: they still have some left in the pedal. They will have to put the full throttle next week to dream of Europe this season.
