GC FRAUENFUSSBALL – SERVETTE FCCF 1-1 (0-1)

A frustrating match to kick off the Playoffs! Servette FCCF couldn’t secure the win on Saturday in the first leg of the AXA Women’s Super League Playoff quarter-finals. On GC Frauenfussball’s pitch, the Genevans had to settle for a draw (1-1) after a game they largely controlled.

At Letzigrund, the Servettiennes took control of the game from the first minutes, imposing their rhythm and pressing. They logically opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Cassandra Korhonen, well-served in the box. A deserved goal that rewarded a serious start to the match. But after that opening goal, clear chances became rare. The Grenat struggled to trouble a well-organized Zurich defense. Despite dominating possession, José Barcala’s players lacked sharpness in the final third.

And what had to happen, happened. On one of its rare attacks, GC found the equalizer ten minutes from the end. An avoidable goal that punished SFCCF’s lack of offensive efficiency. The Servettiennes tried to force a winner late on but were unsuccessful. They will now have to make the difference at home to secure their spot in the semifinals.

The second leg will be played next Saturday at Stade des Trois-Chêne (5 PM). A crucial meeting to continue the Playoff journey.
