BSC YB FRAUEN – SERVETTE FCCF: A NEW TITLE AT GAME
Tomorrow against YB, the Servettiiennes can write a new beautiful page in their history in the Swiss Cup.
The 2023-2024 season is entering its home stretch. Last week, the Grenat made their return to the Stade de Genève, a special event since the Genevans had not played there since the end of 2021. Against Zürich, the Genevans were able to create the opportunities to come out with a positive result, but the Zurich women were able to be sharper by winning 3-0.
A bitter result which will have had no impact on the ranking. Jose Barcala’s protégés had already secured the lead in the standings the previous day. Beyond the challenge, the goal was to achieve a positive result before the final and to continue this streak of invincibility in the regular season which had lasted for a little less than 3 years.
Never mind, this meeting is now part of the past. Now it’s time for an important deadline: the final of the Swiss Cup. The Grenat, title holders, will find a serious YB team ready to take the trophy from them this Saturday, April 20 at Letzigrund around 3 p.m. This season, Bernoises and Genevoises met twice without either team managing to gain an advantage over the other (1-1 at Fontenette then 2-2 at Wankdorf). The meeting promises to be intense between two teams eager to lift the first title of the season.
To reach this stage of the competition, the players from the capital have brilliantly completed each stage with seriousness. In the 1st round, YB defeated Savièse with a score of 21 (!) to 0 before taking out Yverdon (4-1), Aarau (3-1), Carouge (9-0) and eliminating FC Basel with a score of 3 to 2 in the semi-final. The Servettians began their journey by defeating Lausanne-Sport with a score of 9 to 0 in what was the first lake derby in the history of women’s football. Their epic then led them to defeat Schlieren (4-0), Saint-Gall (2-1) then FC Lucerne with a score of 2 to 0 in the semi-final.
The appointment is therefore made for this Saturday, April 20 at 3 p.m. at Letzigrund!
