Servette FCCF earned a 3–0 win at the Stade des Trois-Chêne against FC St. Gallen. This first real test was handled perfectly by the Garnet, who continue to impress at the start of the season. Therese Simonsson shone brightly with a brace.
On Saturday, Servette FCCF played their first home match of the season. The day’s opponent was a real test: FC St. Gallen are expected to be a Top 6 team this year. After holding YB to a draw on the opening matchday, the Swiss-German side arrived in Geneva full of confidence. Servette, for their part, have already made a strong impression this season: after a solid preseason, they beat Lucerne 4–0 away and followed up with an 11–1 Swiss Cup win against Sissach.
In front of more than 500 spectators, the Geneva side quickly took control of the game. Martínez, Simonsson and Simon all forced the St. Gallen goalkeeper into action early. Despite dominating, the Garnet couldn’t find the net in the first half, partly due to the visitors’ disciplined defending. But as the match wore on, the St. Gallen players tired from constantly chasing the ball.
After the break, Servette turned on the style, striking three times in quick succession. Therese Simonsson (52’ and 66’) and Ghoutia Karchouni (68’) brought the Stade des Trois-Chêne to its feet. The scoreline could easily have been heavier given the number of chances created by the hosts.
This victory sends a clear message ahead of next week’s clash in Bern against YB: SFCCF are hungry!
