SERVETTE FCCF – FC LUCERNE: THE LEAGUE RETURNS

After a weekend break due to the international window, José Barcala’s players return to action with a home match against Lucerne this Saturday at 4:00 PM at Trois-Chêne.

Memories still linger from the historic Swiss Cup quarter-final played at the Stade de Genève. That was just before the international break. In a nail-biting finish, the Servette players secured qualification through a penalty shootout, with Mickaëla Bottega in top form, saving two penalties from Bern to send her team through.

Now, it’s back to league action with the visit of Lucerne! Having started the year in the best possible way—with an away win against Thun and qualification for the Swiss Cup semi-final—Servette will be looking to keep up the momentum to hold on to their top spot in the standings. That first place was reclaimed at the season restart thanks to Zürich’s win over Basel. With 33 points, SFCCF leads the table, but only two points ahead of Basel. There’s no room for error!

Their opponents, Lucerne, arrive in Geneva with playoff ambitions. The central Swiss side has had a mixed start to the year. After a heavy 6–0 home defeat to Grasshoppers, they bounced back with a draw against St. Gallen. Despite these setbacks, Lucerne remains a dangerous opponent, capable of challenging any team. With a five-point lead over Rapperswil, they still have a comfortable cushion in the race for the playoffs.

A Saturday of Reunions
After leaving Servette FCCF in the summer of 2024, Michèle Schnider has returned to her former club, Lucerne. She originally left Lucerne in early 2022 to join Servette FCCF. Three years later, she returns to where it all began and will be reunited with Geneva and her former teammates this Saturday at 4:00 PM at Trois-Chêne.
