FC ZÜRICH FRAUEN – SERVETTE FCCF 0-4 (0-1)

Servette FCCF returns from Zurich with three valuable points and a clean sheet. At the Letzigrund, José Barcala’s squad delivered a flawless performance to secure a 4-0 victory! Jonušaitė, Marchão, Korhonen, and Saoud all found the back of the net. With this win, Servette stays neck-and-neck with Basel at the top of the table.

After Basel’s win the day before, Servette was under pressure heading into this “classic” against FC Zürich Frauen. To stay in contention at the top of the league, Servette FCCF needed a big performance at the Letzigrund. And they rose to the occasion. Despite the presence of several thousand Zurich supporters — including the men’s team’s fan section — the Servette players never buckled under the pressure.

Rimantė Jonušaitė opened the scoring in the 6th minute after stealing the ball near the edge of the penalty area. Following a one-two with Sandrine Mauron, the Lithuanian striker was perfectly placed to finish. Throughout the first half, the Geneva side dominated and created several chances. Unfortunately, they lacked sharpness in front of goal, and the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

The first 45 minutes were promising, but with just a one-goal lead and Zurich playing at home, everything was still possible. How would SFCCF respond in the second half? The players came out even more determined! They quickly put the game to bed with goals from Joana Marchão, Cassandra Korhonen, and Imane Saoud. Powerful, fast, and well-organized, the Grenat gave their opponents no chance.

Servette FCCF wins 4-0 and keeps pace with Basel at the top of the league. Both teams have the same number of points and the same goal difference. They’ll face off again this Wednesday at the Stade de la Praille in the Swiss Cup semi-final (7:00 PM), before meeting once more on March 22 for the final match of the regular season.

The end of the season promises to be thrilling, with the Swiss Cup, the final league matches, and the playoffs on the horizon! Servette is still in the race to defend both of the titles won last year. Everyone to the stadium to support the Grenat!
