Servette FCCF kicks off the second phase of the league in perfect fashion! The Genevan side earned a convincing 3-0 win over Thun, reclaiming the top spot in the standings! Imène El Ghazouani, Paula Serrano, and Imane Saoud all found the back of the net.
The winter break is over, and football has returned in the AXA Women’s Super League. Servette FCCF traveled to Thun with one clear goal: to reclaim first place in the standings. Earlier in the day, Basel lost 1-0 away to FC Zurich, opening a golden opportunity for the Genevans. And against the bottom side, the match was largely one-sided. The Servette players were clearly superior, and it showed throughout. However, José Barcala’s squad struggled to convert their many chances.
Paloma Lázaro thought she had opened the scoring after just three minutes, but was flagged offside. Then in the 12th minute, she struck the crossbar. No matter—Imène El Ghazouani followed up with a powerful header to put Servette ahead in the 13th minute. More chances followed, including a golden opportunity for Paula Serrano, who found herself alone against the goalkeeper but skewed her shot wide. The halftime score stood at 1-0 for SFCCF, though it could have easily been higher with better finishing.
The Grenat maintained their intensity into the second half and quickly threatened again. Maéva Clémaron also hit the bar before Paula Serrano doubled the lead in the 62nd minute. With full control of the game, the Genevans rotated their squad. Landryna Luschimba made her first appearance in Garnet, replacing Serrano in central midfield (71’) and showing why so much promise surrounds her. Strong and smart, she was active and involved in the final 20 minutes.
Servette sealed the win in the 85th minute with a brilliant team move: a combination between El Ghazouani and Manon Revelli set up Imane Saoud for a headed goal—Servette’s third of the day. A well-deserved reward for a serious and composed performance against Thun.
With this win, Servette FCCF returns to the top of the league! A perfect setup ahead of next Saturday’s Swiss Cup quarter-final against YB at the Stade de Genève (kickoff at 4 p.m.). Come out and support your team for this crucial clash!
