Servette FCCF is gearing up for a major event this Saturday at 4:00 p.m.! The Garnet squad will host YB Frauen in the quarter-finals of the Swiss Cup. The reigning champions will play at the Stade de Genève, where nearly 2,000 fans are expected! Here’s everything you need to know.
After achieving a league-and-cup double last season, Servette FCCF is chasing an even greater feat: defending both titles and keeping the trophies on the shores of Lake Geneva. Sitting top of the league, the team is competing on all fronts. This Saturday, a huge challenge awaits José Barcala’s players as they host YB Frauen in the Swiss Cup quarter-finals. It’s a showcase event for women’s football, and a high-caliber clash deserves a top-class venue: the match will take place at the Stade de Genève, with over 2,000 supporters expected to cheer on the home side.
The opponent: Young Boys Frauen—a rematch of last year’s Swiss Cup final, where Servette triumphed 3-2 after an epic encounter. Paula Serrano, Therese Simonsson, and Rimantė Jonušaitė scored for the Garnets, while Swiss international Naomi Luyet netted twice for YB. All of these players will return to the pitch at the Stade de Genève for another high-stakes knockout game.
So far this season, the two sides have already met twice, with Servette winning 3-0 and 4-0. But the Garnets must not become complacent—past results won’t count in this Cup quarter-final. Currently fourth in the league, YB has their eyes set on the title in both competitions. Like Basel, St. Gallen, and Grasshoppers, Young Boys Frauen have made major strides in recent years to become highly competitive. The league has never been this tight, and several clubs are legitimate contenders for silverware this season.
