After the heartbreak in the Swiss Cup against Basel, it’s time to lift their heads and focus on another goal: finishing top of the league. That mission begins this Sunday, March 16, against GC.
Moving forward after a penalty shootout elimination against Basel is no easy task, but the team must shake off that setback and turn their attention to another major objective of the 2024/2025 season: securing first place in the regular season. The Servette players are now on a mission. One mission, two matches, 180 minutes, and two formidable opponents: GC and… Basel. These are two “finals” that must be approached with grit, determination, and an unrelenting hunger to win. The frustration from Wednesday must be transformed into strength to elevate their game in these last two regular-season matches.
The first of these two “finals” kicks off this Sunday against Grasshopper. A worthy opponent—perhaps less dominant than in previous seasons—but still a team that Barcala’s players must approach with caution. GC is a side capable of anything: holding off Servette or Zürich, achieving big wins, but also suffering heavy defeats. Their 6–2 loss to Basel in September 2024 is a clear example.
Despite the Cup loss to Basel, there were many positives to take from the match. Servette was the better team overall, creating countless chances to take the lead. There’s also the emphatic win over FCZ at the Letzigrund, a one-sided affair where the reigning Swiss champions showed both effectiveness and solidity. Servette will need to build on all the positives from those two games, fine-tune the necessary details, and leave nothing on the table against GC—who will certainly be looking to gain confidence ahead of the playoffs.
Servette vs. GC — the first of two finals kicks off this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Stade des Trois-Chêne!
