It was a high-stakes match for Servette on Saturday in Basel. They had the opportunity to claim first place in the standings right before the Playoffs — but for that, they needed to beat the team from the Rhine. In a very tight match between a Basel side determined not to lose and a Servette side struggling in the final third, it wasn’t until the second half that the best chances appeared. Especially in the last ten minutes, José Barcala’s players pushed hard to snatch the win. Despite several attempts in front of the Basel goalkeeper’s goal, they couldn’t convert. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

This result benefits YB, who, thanks to a 1-0 win over GC, take first place at the end of the regular season — overtaking both Servette and Basel.

It’s another bitter disappointment for the Grenat: they played well, gave their all, but once again lacked finishing in key moments. That’s something they will need to fix in order to recover the strength that once made them unbeatable in decisive games.

The Playoffs begin in three weeks, with Servette FCCF set to face GC Frauenfussball in the quarter-finals. Should they win that tie, a potential semi-final against… FC Basel Frauen awaits. But before dreaming of revenge, José Barcala’s squad must first overcome the challenge posed by GC.
