POGON SZCZECIN – SERVETTE FCCF 0-1 (0-0)

Servette FCCF won 1-0 against Pogon Szczecin, completing the first step towards the Champions League. As is often the case, it was Rimante Jonušaite who played the savior with an anthology goal in the 92nd minute. The Servettiennes will face the Greeks of AC PAOK on Saturday for a place in the play-offs.

In a packed stadium, José Barcala’s players did the „job“ this Wednesday against the Polish team of Pogon Szczecin. They won 1-0 thanks to a sublime goal by Rimante Jonušaite in injury time. It has become a habit: the Lithuanian international striker often scores by coming on at the end of the match. She had already done the trick in the Swiss Cup final and in the Championship final.

But before this deliverance, it was hard! The Polish, supported by their fans, delivered a solid match and had the first chances. The Genevans seemed paralyzed and took time to get into the game. However, as soon as the Servettiennes put their foot on the ball, we could tell that they were more technical. Despite this, they never managed to convert. We had to wait for Rimante Jonušaite’s stroke of genius at the very end of the match to finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Servette FCCF can be satisfied with this result, but will have to quickly refocus, because the second stage is already coming this Saturday. The Servettiennes will face AC PAOK for a place in the Champions League play-offs.
